About Yarrow
Yarrow has a brief but unique history. Settlement stretches further into the past on Majuba Hill but the town site itself was under the waters of Sumas Lake until the early 1920’s.
The province, after 50 years’ planning, undertook draining the lake to “reclaim” 33,000 acres of prime agricultural land. The town was established by Russian Mennonite families seeking a peaceful life after fleeing unimaginable hardship during The War To End All Wars in Europe.
The Yarrow Historical Society’s website delves deep into our town’s story. Please visit their page to learn how Yarrow came to be. We thank webmaster Elmer Wiens for sharing this valuable link with us: Yarrow Pioneers And Settlers
